Cove 02:15
Down the 805 trying to talk myself into tune Grateful for an opportunity to meet up with you Every moment a chance to dust and sweep Sitting by the ocean feeling your story swell with the tide Feels like change is coming, something I haven't felt for a long, long time Every smile and glance brushing off debris One comforting hand extends towards me You're a wise, outstretched branch Stabilizing me
2.
The night was calm and the city looked sharp in the navy sky I saw a bomb fly by a nearby bridge, better hurry... Three or four lit up the sky line I sought out shelter in the civic shelter almost instinctively went down to the basement I met you in the elevator We knew each other, probably spoke some words but I can't recall I stepped into the hall I found an empty folding chair and took a seat I watched some family members sing a tune Sang along in my head The accompanist was a violist but the viola had no body It was just some strings held together by a pair of wire clippers I climbed up to take a picture To the top of the auditorium But I climbed to high and lost my grip
3.
The dust bowl presses up to our windows like shades Now we're better off just staying in After tossing of crops started outpours of coughs Can we say that we know what we did? Is my life the same, do I live? And when will I see my companions again? The dust traveled over the ocean, made it past the pacific And life stood so still California was frozen but freedom doesn't freeze, it's ferocious, and sadly, It kills Who can lead us through these uncertain times? Everyone has opinions but no one was shown any signs Grey eyes fade from the screen Screen light shines endlessly A world of our senses remains still in place The last of the hop-able fences carries me away I drift through the stories I drift through the shows I grimace through national updates Hibernating in the snow

Looking down at the corrie loch just an hour since the morning broke and I woke The merciless sun pulling me from my boulder bed Eagle brother souring over head Mountain goat sister skating round the bend The family has been waiting to talk Slide down the slope, have a sip from the tarn Grab a bite from the grass, become one with the yard Stop for a view of a previous world full of challenging tests Now I'm free as a bird I didn't take time to explain myself I'd still be down there if I'd given myself an out But I'm a penguin waddling through Saharan plains Back to the car to blast the stereo Listen to Elliott until the batteries go Grab a hat and pull the bill to the back Slide down the slope, drink a quart from the tarn Find a strawberry patch, eat them all with a yawn Slide further down, catch a foot in the ground Start to spin up and down, lose your thought, black out I do believe that's the Milky Way The way the star dust leaves a haze There must be something wrong if the sky's so clear Did the power go out? Or am I dreaming peacefully This would be such a pleasant dream I believe it I believe that everything is good I'm obliged to believe that we all fit together well We found a way to patch the dam We found a way to understand We found a way to hold each other's hands Catch up Catch up...

Remembering sequences in a flurry You need hidden information Left outside a massive building in a monosyllabic answer Was it down beneath the leaves while I scurried in the classroom? Was it buried in the books that I tossed aside then socialized? Was it in a friend's advice? But I did try to scrutinize... Was it in a childhood corner that I returned to one time too few? With time and space, a better wager - Hidden in a chance encounter Hypothetical at best Randomness would win the test And would it have been worth it, after all, (I laugh into my shirt breast pocket) To trade a life of dust and gust for office space from dawn to dusk?

The lizard's pushup days are done He slumbers in the mud He sleeps on his waterbed in the marsh that connects the river to the ocean Mosquitos drink his blood Clouds hide the sky from all the fuss Frogs, deer, alligators, rabbits, racoons, skunks, geese, and moose salute his cadaver Thud, thud, thud, etc... (The thuds are the sound of animals saluting)

Nostalgizing 03:33
When I breathe When I stretch If I close both my eyes If I shut down my brain I'm swallowed by the stars The world can seem so far, far away I will gasp I will clench If I look far and wide If I might think again I'm treading through the cars I'm part of the stampede We came upon New Hogan Lake on our drive back to Sacramento We made a stop there And we sat back with our feet out in the water There was a bowrider in the distance making waves, and everything was still Hamamatsu halfway through our week-long journey finding food This was a pit stop I spent four hours listening to all the instrument exhibits And reading their descriptions while my friends were resting on a bench If I sigh If I slump Sometimes I'm all worn out But I'll cheer up again The moments that we spent Will complement my bed

As this is a wordless lullaby, there are no lyrics!

about

Assorted Stories is an EP-length collection of songs that I mostly wrote during quarantine and generally reflect a much calmer time than most went through during that time period (which I'm quite grateful for). Just before quarantine I moved into a new apartment with my wife (then girlfriend) and have had the pleasure of spending this time with her. Most of the songs on this album tell a story of some sort, hence the name Assorted Stories.

The songs are quite simple, mainly because I was pretty exhausted from the effort Welcome Everything took. I had a lot of fun writing and recording these songs in a more relaxed spirit.
