The album-unifying mellowness of The Cycle was inspired by the fantastic albums Heretic Pride and Get Lonely, both by The Mountain Goats. In this album, I made the self-aware attempt to return to the awesome layering and instrumentation of A Boy And A Basement. But since my musical taste has changed, the result is a mix of the past and present. Big inspirations for this album come from Belle And Sebastian, Regina Spektor, The Mountain Goats (duh), Elliott Smith, jazz, and my gospel choir teacher's piano style (Girl In The Bright Green Shirt).
