about

This album is about miscommunication between people and placing unreasonable expectations on other people without vocalizing any of those expectations. I wanted to return to a heavier instrumentation, but also wanted to keep an intimate, home-recorded feel by leaving out some of the more common instruments like drums and bass guitar (notably in Puzzle Piece, Hang On, Tell Me Ann, and Vertigo). Inspirations for the album came from Ween (the song Sarah), Islands (The album Return to the Sea), Mason Jennings (self-titled album), The Decembrists (the song The Infanta), and The Mountain Goats (everything).

I bought some nicer microphones and an external audio interface bfore recording Distant Signals (finally ditched the old Tascam DP-01 digital recorder), so I was able to greatly improve the signal to noise ratio and hopefully get the mixes a bit louder, although my mastering was still very conservative.
